2024 Volunteer Awards

Our commitment to our community goes beyond providing safe, reliable energy; it’s about empowering the organizations that strengthen the people around us. We’re proud of our employees and their dedication to give back, contributing more than 12,450 volunteer hours in 2023 alone.

Every year, Exelon’s Powering Communities Award recognizes those volunteers who go above and beyond. Along with this recognition, the highest volunteer award in the organization comes with a $5,000 grant to help continue their services in our community. This October, we proudly recognized two outstanding Pepco employees: Kenneth McCabe for his work with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention – National Capital Region, and Rowena McKenna for her contributions to the Pilipino American Association of Delaware.

“Your efforts strengthen the reputation of our organization, letting others in the community know that Atlantic City Electric, Delmarva Power, and Pepco are not only their local energy provider but we are also a strong leader and thoughtful community partners,” said Tyler Anthony, President and CEO of Pepco Holdings. “Your efforts continue to distinguish us from other local business leaders and help us share our story with those who mean the most to us—our communities.”

Kenneth and Rowena are catalysts for positive change across our region through their volunteerism. Learn how they’re making an impact:

  • Kenneth McCabe, Senior Data Scientist

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention – National Capital Area

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) provides life-saving services while bringing hope to those affected by suicide. Kenneth manages the relationship between AFSP and Pepco and serves as the Community Engagement Chair with DYP-DC, helping the National Capital Area chapter negotiate sponsorship agreements, prepare leaders for public speaking engagements, coordinate marketing collateral, and more. He is fueled by the organization’s mission to raise funds for research, educate the public about mental health, and support survivors of suicide loss.

  • Rowena McKenna, Senior Business Analyst

Pilipino American Association of Delaware

Rowena works with the Pilipino American Association of Delaware (PAAD) to foster a strong and connected Filipino American community while preserving their cultural values. Rowena has worked with the nonprofit for six years and is currently serving as its auditor, coordinating fundraising events and donations. Rowena also works with the summer school Paaralan Pilipino, where children learn elements of Filipino culture, history, and language.
