Celebrating Our Veterans: How EMAC Supports Those Who Serve, at Work and Beyond

Veterans Day is a time to honor and thank the brave men and women who have served our country, including the many veterans who are part of our team. We proudly celebrate their dedication, resilience, and commitment—qualities that align deeply with our core values of leadership, teamwork, and integrity.

To our veteran employees and all veterans, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for your service and sacrifice. Thank you for protecting our freedoms and for continuing to bring your skills, dedication, and values to our organization and communities.

Below, Steven Hambleton, Project Controls Manager and President of the Exelon Militaries Actively Connected (EMAC) Employee Resource Group at Pepco Holdings, shares how EMAC supports veterans within our company and reflects on the significance of Veterans Day.

As President of EMAC, how does this Employee Resource Group help other veterans within the company?

When I reflect on being President of EMAC, I am honored to facilitate open dialogue throughout Exelon that addresses who veterans are and why they served, as well as the support systems it takes to make them successful.

EMAC exists to promote a positive workplace environment for those with prior military service, engage employees who would like to be involved in military issues, and establish a networking tool for all employees, regardless of military affiliation, across Exelon and its operating companies. We have over 1,000 participants and we are still growing. EMAC is open to all Exelon employees including military members and their families, as well as non-military members. If you’re ready, we’re ready for you.

What does being a member of EMAC mean to you, and what does it mean to have a company benefit like this available to you?

As the President and member of EMAC, I feel the comradery once again within the organization of EMAC that many veterans, myself included, experienced during their time in service. I also feel that EMAC provides a place where all are free to share their experiences and help lift each other up. This ERG helps all employees understand what makes veterans unique, shares the voice of veterans so they do not feel forgotten, and  drives conversations to support all members personally and professionally.

Is there anything else you would like to say in recognition of Veterans Day?

As Veterans Day approaches, I am reminded of not only the great sacrifices each member of the United States military has made to this nation and its citizens but also of the sacrifices made by those who stayed behind to help support those in uniform. The families and friends that are left behind when someone takes the oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States are pivotal and cannot be thanked enough. I would ask that everyone take time to reflect on the freedoms veterans help preserve and the sacrifices they have made and continue to make, regardless of whether it is for a weekend drill, field training, or in combat in a faraway land.
