Built in 1970, Stockton University’s main library had aging systems that were increasingly expensive to operate. Balancing student and staff comfort with rising energy costs became a key challenge.
To address those needs, the university is making major improvements with the help of Atlantic City Electric’s Engineered Solutions program. Through the initial program phase, the university has received a comprehensive energy audit and engineering design from an approved Trade Ally and energy expert, making it easy to identify and implement cost-saving opportunities. For large, complex facilities like a university campus, this level of coordination is an important advantage.
“The library is a central gathering space on campus, so improving comfort and system performance was top of mind,” said Justine Ciraolo, Director of Energy and Sustainability. “At the same time, these upgrades help us lower energy use and save money.”
The finished project will include LED lighting, targeted HVAC improvements, and enhancements to the building management system, with program incentives to reduce the up-front equipment costs. These upgrades are designed to optimize system performance, improve comfort for students and staff, and support long-term efficiency. With an estimated total turnkey cost of $2,763,638 and anticipated incentives from Atlantic City Electric totaling $592,698.73, the project is expected to deliver annual energy savings of more than 536,500 kilowatt-hours. That’s enough energy to power 60 New Jersey homes per year.
