After reaching a plateau both personally and professionally, Carla knew she wanted more in life — growth, purpose, and a career she could be proud of. The energy industry offered exactly that.
Her decision to change careers was also influenced by something she observed during college: a clear need for more women, especially women of color, in STEM fields like energy. For Carla, representation wasn’t just a concept; it was a calling. With a teenage daughter, she was determined to show her, and other young women, what’s possible.
“Growing up in Atlantic City, I’d always heard about the essential work Atlantic City Electric was doing to not only provide reliable energy but to make a positive impact in the local community,” she shared. When it came time for a career shift, her path was clear.
Carla joined the Atlantic City Infrastructure Program and embraced every opportunity it offered. “The mentorship, networking, and hands-on training I gained during the program were pivotal in shaping my career path and the professional I am today,” she said. “It gave me the tools to refine my resume, improve my interview techniques, and build my confidence.” The program also connected her with experienced industry leaders, allowing her to showcase her potential and step into opportunities she once thought were out of reach.
Her advice to young women? “Don’t hesitate to break the glass ceiling and challenge the status quo. Every opportunity to grow, learn, and lead is a step toward paving the way for the next generation.”
At Atlantic City Electric, we believe the energy industry is stronger when opportunities are open to everyone. With leaders like Carla breaking barriers and forging new paths, we’re creating a future where young women can see a place for themselves in this field.
