Celebrating a new place for kids to play and grow

We recently joined our sister Exelon utility, BGE, to co-sponsor #BuildingChangeTOGETHER and build a new playground at the Suitland Community Center in Prince George’s County, Md. with KABOOM! – the nonprofit organization focused on ending playspace inequity. More than 40 volunteers from Pepco participated in the four-day event this October, alongside other volunteers from BGE, the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, and Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation, to enhance access to playspaces for kids.

“At Pepco we are strong supporters of the communities we serve and believe that everyone, especially youth, should have equal access to the resources they need to have a good quality of life and opportunities for development and play,” said Tyler Anthony, senior vice president and Chief Operating Officer of Pepco Holdings. “We were proud to join this important initiative for the Suitland community and provide a safe place for families to recreate outdoors for years to come.”

This playground’s design was created by local kids, with a focus on science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM). It features a new playspace, multi-sport court, gaga pit and moon walk. View a short video recapping the event below.
