Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Delmarva Power has provided additional support to our customers and communities. We understand that this pandemic has financially impacted our customers as well as small businesses in our service area. As an essential business and the local energy company for over 100 years, we recognize the vital role that we play in assisting our communities as best as possible through each stage of the pandemic.
As the pandemic continues, we’ve been working to identify ways we can support our community from an economic recovery standpoint. As part of this support, we’ve taking steps to support those in our communities who are pursuing a higher education, as well as local small businesses.
Delmarva Power is launching a new Communities Scholars Program that provides $75,000 in grants over the 2020-2021 academic year to support our community. We want to focus on growing our local diverse talent by providing scholarships that’ll help them gain the skills needed to join the energy workforce.
“We are incredibly grateful for Delmarva Power’s longtime support of Delaware Tech and our mission to put students at the center of everything we do,” said Mark T. Brainard, President of Delaware Tech. “This generous scholarship donation will have a significant impact on the lives of our students, some of whom would not otherwise have the opportunity to further their education before entering the state’s workforce. We are thankful that Delmarva Power recognizes our graduates’ contributions to Delaware and is therefore willing to invest so generously in their futures.”
In addition, we’re making $100,000 available to small businesses in Delaware and Maryland to help recover from the economic impacts of COVID-19. The small business recovery fund donations will provide additional funding across our service area through the end of this year to help local businesses continue to operate.
“The impact this pandemic has had on our small business community has been crippling, but we are thankful for the amazing partnership with Delmarva Power and their investment in the City of Salisbury COVID-19 Emergency Relief micro-grant program. These funds will go directly towards the small businesses in our community that have been through an extremely tough couple of months and will better position them to succeed in our recovery,” said Laura Soper, Director of Business Development, City of Salisbury.
This support from Delmarva Power is an addition to the $100,000 in contributions provided to local organizations to support financial impacts our customers are facing. This is part of the company’s effort to help our communities respond to and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and provide the upmost level of service for our customers.
This community effort is part of our mission to provide opportunities to residents to continue their education, ensure a strong and skilled energy workforce, and helps ensure that small businesses in our region continue to fight through the pandemic.
