Community Solar Provides New Option for Customers to Access Clean Energy

Our customers like solar power. So far, more than 9,000 have already installed their own private solar equipment and that number continues to climb. But for many customers, owning or hosting their own system just isn’t possible. Our Community Solar Pilot Program in Maryland is changing that.

Community solar gives any customer the ability to buy energy from a local solar project, making it possible to access the benefits of solar energy without physically installing solar equipment at their home or business.

Here’s how it works:

  • You purchase a monthly subscription for solar energy directly from a community solar project – at a percentage you choose.
  • We continue delivering your energy, including your solar purchase.
  • The solar provider bills you monthly for your subscription and you receive a credit on your Delmarva Power bill for the solar energy you already purchased. It’s that easy!

At the same time, we are helping solar providers propose projects and interconnect with our local energy grid through the pilot program. Once connected, we efficiently deliver the clean energy they produce to our customers across the region. Through the pilot program, we will connect up to 2 Megawatts (MW) of new solar power each year – that’s about 8 acres of new solar projects on the Eastern Shore per year.
