When you spend a day with Ms. Enid Wallace-Sims, Government Affairs Manager for Delmarva Power, you see that we are doing so much more than keeping the lights on.
Ms. Wallace-Sims joined the company over 35 years ago. As she tells it, her first thought when considering a position here was that this industry was a “man’s world.” Her second thought was that she was too qualified for the positions that were open at the time.
As she reflects 35 years later, in a position where she meets daily with anyone from the Mayor of Wilmington to a neighbor as the face of the company, Ms. Wallace-Sims is the embodiment of a promise to invest in local communities by investing in employees.
“I’ve been here through three mergers, and I’ve been through several departments,” Wallace-Sims told The Source.
Over the past year, we have made several commitments and advancements in the commitment to building a strong and diverse workforce:
- Committed to provide over $3M to workforce development initiatives that prepare people for jobs in the energy industry;
- Investing $2M in a workforce development initiative with Delaware Technical and Community College, Delaware State University, the United Way, the Boys and Girls Club of Delaware, and the Forum to Advance Minorities in Engineering (FAME);
- Purchased $49.6 million in goods and services from diversity certified suppliers.

“Without diversity in age, thought, experience, culture, orientation and religion to name a few, it’s harder for us to meet the needs of the communities we serve,” said Gary Stockbridge, Delmarva Power Region President.
Our focus on diversity includes actions such as creating pathways to employment through partnerships like those with Delaware State University, educating diversity-certified businesses on opportunities to work us, and helping diverse candidates elevate through the ranks like Enid.
This is the sentiment we heard over-and-over again while spending a day in the life of Enid and we are proud to be firmly invested in the success of Wilmington and our employees,” Stockbridge said.
Check out our broader proud history of diversity in the workforce, and look out for career opportunities with us that are right for you.
