Investing in Northeast D.C. by Advancing Fresh Food Equity and Community Growth

We are proud to award nearly $600,000 in grants to eight local small businesses to improve access to fresh food and fresh food related products in northeast Washington, D.C. through the Pepco Energizing Small Business Grant Program. Each business that received funding has specific plans to enhance operations, such as expanding delivery service to combat food insecurity, improving the customer experience and address food deserts in the neighborhoods surrounding our Benning Service Center in Wards 5, 7, and 8.

The following businesses will each receive more than $74,000 to support their businesses operating in areas surrounding Pepco’s Benning Service Center:

Deanwood Deli, DMV Meat, Fight JuiceFresh Food Factory MarketJarabe Gourmet PopsThai ZestUnion Kitchen, and Wellbody Kitchen

Pepco’s Energizing Small Business Grants are part of a nearly $1 million investment in northeast D.C.’s community. Pepco also expanded its charitable contributions to schools and nonprofits that operate in those same neighborhoods to help support community growth and engagement. The following organizations will receive $20,000 in  grants for the next three years, totaling $300,000: Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington, Cesar Chavez High SchoolNevel Thomas Elementary SchoolEducare of Washington, D.C. and Marshall Heights Community Development Organization.
