To help our Nation’s Veterans, employees from Atlantic City Electric and our sister companies, Delmarva Power and PECO, participated in the 5th Annual Ruff Ride, a 24-hour spin bicycling relay held at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, to support those who served our country and who provide the freedoms we all know today.
Teams from across the region came together with the goal of keeping each team’s spin bike going for 24 hours straight to support America’s Veterans, many of which fight on an invisible battlefield. Statistics show that each day across the nation, more than 20 Veterans die by suicide, often as a result of post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injuries and related mental health issues.
Together with PECO and Delmarva Power, our team placed first, taking home the trophy as the “Ruffest Riders” while helping raise more than $124,200 to support Team Foster, an organization founded in memory of Captain Erick Foster, an Army Ranger who was killed in action in Iraq in 2007 while serving in the United States Army.
Team Foster, founded in 2014, raises funds to obtain, uniquely train, and provide highly trained service dogs to injured and disabled Veterans in need, free of charge. To date, Team Foster in collaboration with partner organizations, have provided these properly trained, highly quality service dogs to more than 300 Veterans.
The event was supported by our employee resource group, Exelon Military Actively Connected (EMAC), which promotes a positive workplace environment for those with prior military service, engages employees who would like to be involved in military issues, and establishes a networking tool for all employees regardless of military affiliation across Exelon and its operating companies.
We are extremely proud of our employee volunteers who supported this event to help raise funds so Team Foster can continue to provide these service dogs to our Nation’s Veterans in their time of need. In addition to events that support Veterans, we are committed to helping Veterans translate their skills to the energy industry, starting in the recruitment process and continuing with professional development support in the workplace.
