Pepco Holdings Launches Employment Program for Individuals with Autism

“There are so many people who can make a huge contribution if they are only given the chance,” said former Delaware Governor Jack Markell. Pepco Holdings is doing exactly that.

Last year, we joined The Precisionists to launch an innovative program that provides employment to dozens of local adults with autism. Individuals taking part in the program are identified, assessed, trained, and employed by The Precisionists, and carry out project-based work at Pepco Holdings, including managing and updating databases, supporting the processing of solar application invoices and requests, and entering and analyzing data for our customer care organization. Participants provide support to all of our utilities, which include Atlantic City Electric, Delmarva Power, and Pepco.

The program was one of more than 250 innovative ideas displayed at the 2018 Exelon Innovation Expo held in Washington, D.C. on Aug. 16. Employees from Pepco Holdings and The Precisionists received first place in the fast-pitch contest, which included a presentation in a Shark Tank-like atmosphere before a panel of judges, including Shark Tank’s own Daymond John.

“A diverse team of people – with different backgrounds, experiences, cultures and perspectives – makes us a better company and a stronger community partner,” said Mike Poncia, vice president of Customer Operations for Pepco Holdings. We will continue to expand this important program and are pleased to continue to provide more work and create more jobs.
