Pepco Marks Exelon’s 25 Years of Impact with Local Milestones and Customer Commitments

Pepco’s parent company Exelon, one of the nation’s largest utility companies, rang the opening bell at the Nasdaq MarketSite today in Times Square to commemorate its 25th anniversary. To celebrate this milestone, we’re highlighting the progress and partnerships that continue to strengthen reliability, affordability, and community resilience for our more than 944,000 electric customers in the District of Columbia and Maryland. These achievements reflect our commitment since joining the Exelon family of companies in 2016.

Exelon President and CEO Calvin Butler was joined at the ceremony by members of Exelon’s Executive Committee, including Tyler Anthony, president and CEO of Pepco Holdings.

Also in attendance were several long-serving employees who have been with the company for 25 years or more, representing

the dedication and resilience that have powered Exelon forward. Among them was Clinton James Jr., who began his career in meter reading where he was awarded ‘Reader of the Year’ thanks to his exceptional accuracy and attention to detail. In 1999, he and his Credit Field team were honored with the President’s Cup for Safety, a testament to their commitment to workplace safety and teamwork. Throughout his career, Clinton has remained passionate about operational excellence and supporting his colleagues.

“Being part of the Exelon family of companies for nearly a decade has empowered us to deliver record service for our customers while deepening our commitment to the communities we serve,” said Tyler Anthony, president and CEO of Pepco Holdings. “As we celebrate Exelon’s 25-year anniversary, we’re proud to reaffirm our dedication to building stronger, more resilient communities—whether through modernizing the grid to ensure reliable service or investing in programs that uplift families and create opportunities for individuals across the District and Maryland.”

Pepco has been serving the District and Maryland for nearly 130 years. We joined the Exelon family in 2016 allowing us to to deepen our support for the communities we serve. Here’s just a few examples:

· Reliability and Resilience: Investments in the local energy grid and innovative technologies and our dedicated employees have led to record reliability for Pepco customers across the District and Maryland in 2024. Over the last decade customers have experienced a 57 percent decrease in outages.

· Affordability and Assistance: This summer, we launched the Customer Relief Fund, which provides up to $300 in direct energy assistance to limited and moderate-income customers. This fund was made possible by a one-time $5 million donation to the Salvation Army by Exelon. In 2024, we helped more than 42,000 customers secure more than $39 million in energy assistance.

· Energy Efficiency: Pepco’s Maryland customers have access to robust energy efficiency programs to help reduce energy bill costs. In 2024 alone, more than 167,000 Maryland customers took advantage of these programs, which have delivered more than 41 million megawatt-hours in energy saving since they launched in 2009.

· Community Investment: Pepco, Exelon, and the Exelon Foundation-funded Community Impact Capital Fund (CICF) has provided more than $4.6 million in grant and equity funding to five local, minority-owned businesses working in the energy, IT, workforce development, and real estate fields. Businesses are using the funds to create more jobs, grow their companies, and reinvest in their neighborhoods and communities. The CICF was created to expand access to capital for businesses located in historically disenfranchised or socio-economically disadvantaged communities in Exelon’s service areas, including the District and Maryland.

· Employees Powering Communities: Since joining the Exelon family in 2016, Pepco has contributed more than $32 million to local nonprofits across the District and Maryland and Pepco employees devoted more than 85,000 hours to volunteering—the equivalent of 3,542 workdays—with hundreds of organizations across Maryland and the District of Columbia.

· Supporting Workforce Inclusion: Pepco and Exelon, in partnership with Mayor Muriel Bowser and the District Department of Employment Services, launched the District of Columbia Infrastructure Academy (DCIA) in 2018 to provide residents in the District with career opportunities in energy and infrastructure. Since its launch, nearly 300 residents have graduated from the Pepco Utility Training School at DCIA, helping them move into new life-long career paths. Our partnership with Public Sector Solutions Group (PS2G) is also supporting training in critical cybersecurity and IT programs for residents across Maryland and the District.

As part of Exelon’s anniversary, Pepco will continue investing in the infrastructure, programs and partnerships that matter most to customers, bringing the benefits of scale, shared innovation, and mutual aid to every neighborhood the company services.
