Pepco, Catholic Charities DC Host Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for Homeless

Pepco and Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington hosted its annual Community Thanksgiving for the homeless and those in need on November 24, bringing some warmth, food and sense of community to the neighborhood for this unprecedented Thanksgiving holiday and winter season.

This is the eighth year Pepco and Catholic Charities have partnered on this special event to bring the spirit and comfort of Thanksgiving to Washingtonians in need. Approximately 300 attendees received meals as well as winter coats and personal care packages furnished by Pepco employee donations and distributed by Pepco executives and staff.

Meal service this year was a grab-and-go format delivered outside of the Pepco Edison Place Gallery with social distancing guidelines in place to protect all participants from COVID-19. Dinner packages were double-portion sized, including two homemade turkey meals with mashed potatoes, gravy, collard greens, a corn muffin, and a brownie. KitchenWork, Catholic Charities’ catering service and pilot job training program, prepared and served the meals.

In the true spirit of Thanksgiving, this event fosters a sense of community and reminds attendees, volunteers, and staff of the traditions that unite us as Washingtonians.
