From the neighborhoods of New Castle County to the heart of Sussex County, Delmarva Power is investing in what matters most – keeping Delaware’s homes and businesses powered. In 2025, many reliability projects brought real improvements to customers across the state.
Keeping the North Strong: Red Lion Substation Upgrades (New Castle County)
In northern Delaware, we finished a major upgrade at the Red Lion Substation. By adding a new transformer and building a new underground power line, we’re making sure nearly 2,400 homes and businesses enjoy:
- More reliable electricity, even during high demand
- Fewer outages and faster service restoration
- Room for new families and businesses to grow
- A cleaner environment, thanks to underground lines and wildlife-friendly equipment
Mermaid Substation Reliability Project (New Castle County)
Customers in the Pike Creek area can look forward to experiencing greater system reliability as we make improvements to our Mermaid Substation. Once complete, more than 7,200 customers can expect fewer storm outages, and faster restoration times if service does go out.
Brookside Park Reliability Improvement Project – (New Castle County)
In the Brookside Park community near Newark, we relocated overhead powerline from backyards to the curbsides at the front of homes. These improvements mean:
- Improved service reliability
- Enhanced access to electrical infrastructure
- Decrease outage response times
Strengthening the South: Millsboro Electric Reliability Improvement Project (Sussex County)
In Millsboro, our crews rebuilt and modernized the local electric system with new poles and equipment, and trimmed trees to keep lines clear. These upgrades mean:
- Fewer and shorter outages for Millsboro homes and businesses
- A smarter, stronger grid ready for the future
- Continued progress – outages in the area have already dropped by 46% over the past decade!
