Red Lion Substation Powers Up: Major Upgrades Boost Reliability for New Castle County

Delmarva Power recently completed important upgrades at the Red Lion Substation, bringing enhanced reliability to thousands of homes and businesses across New Castle County.

What’s New at Red Lion?

  • New Transformer:
A transformer is a device that helps manage and deliver electricity efficiently. Our new transformer increases the substation’s ability to handle higher demand and keeps electricity flowing, even during maintenance or unexpected events.
  • Additional Feeder:
A feeder is a main power line that delivers electricity from the substation to the community. The new feeder works alongside the existing one, sharing the demand and reducing stress on the system.

What Does This Mean for New Castle County?

With these upgrades, more than 2,400 customers in the Red Lion area can expect fewer outages, faster restoration when issues do occur, and reliable electric service that supports the growth and needs of our communities—now and in the years ahead.

Environmentally Responsible Upgrades

We made these improvements with the environment in mind, using underground lines and efficient equipment to protect local wetlands and wildlife.
