That’s a wrap on our inaugural ACE-Celerate! program! More than 40 campers from our communities gained a deeper understanding of the energy industry through immersive experiences and hands-on projects, including the chance to make nachos in a solar oven and building motors using just wires, batteries, and magnets.
Students spent the second week of camp exploring how energy powers our daily lives. Through field trips and workshops, they learned about energy transmission and electromagnetism, and engaged in discussions about the impact of climate change on our energy systems. Along the way, they were introduced to the exciting career possibilities in the utility industry, discovering how they could one day contribute to a brighter, more sustainable future.
They took their curiosity to the next level with the Energy Innovation Challenge. Working in small groups, campers identified high-carbon emitters in their neighborhoods and created solutions using renewable resources. Our winning group focused on minimizing transport emissions in Cumberland County by supporting the switch from gas to electric vehicles.
With the support of the Exelon Foundation, Rowan College of South Jersey, and The National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project, we’re making STEM education accessible and helping young people discover their potential to create change – in their communities and beyond. The two-week program concluded with much-deserved recognition, awarding each participant acceptance to Rowan College of South Jersey and a $1,000 scholarship to support students in their continued learning.
Programs like ACE-Celerate! can help ensure that all students have the tools and knowledge they need to succeed, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who made this camp a success. Here’s to a bright future ahead!
