Wilmington LNG Plant Saves Customers More Than $1.1 Million

This winter brought some of the coldest weather we’ve seen in years, leading to a spike in gas usage for customers to heat their homes and businesses. Despite the extreme chill in mid-January, we avoided the need to purchase market-priced natural gas by using stored fuel from our recently upgraded LNG tank. This action saved our customers more than $1.1 million.

In 2019, we identified that the vaporization and liquefaction systems at the Wilmington LNG Plant were nearing the end of their operational life. To ensure continued reliable service, we embarked on a comprehensive upgrade project.

These upgrades have significantly enhanced our capacity to handle higher volumes of gas, ensuring we meet peak demands effortlessly. Faster refill capabilities mean a steady supply even during the busiest times, and new equipment has drastically reduced breakdowns, providing uninterrupted service. Our systems also adhere to the latest safety standards, ensuring smooth and secure operations.

Additionally, these improvements align with our commitment to environmental responsibility. The new systems are more efficient and environmentally friendly, reducing our carbon footprint and supporting a more sustainable future.

We’re proud of the positive impact these upgrades have had on our service, customers and community. The Wilmington LNG Plant stands ready to continue providing reliable and efficient service, thanks to these transformative enhancements.
