Sparking a passion for STEM is the first step in building a diverse workforce, and our partnership with Junior Achievement of Delaware plays a critical role in our efforts to inspire children across our region.
For more than 70 years, Delmarva Power has teamed up with Junior Achievement to ignite curiosity in children in counties across Delaware, New Jersey, and Maryland. This spring, middle and high school students will gain a new hands-on experience and explore career possibilities through two new storefronts at BizTown® and Finance Park. These refreshed spaces will welcome more than 10,000 students annually, offering interactive learning opportunities and encouraging them to dream big about their futures.
“The future of the energy industry is in the hands of today’s students, and it’s our job to help them succeed,” said Phil Vavala, Delmarva Power Region President. “Our partnership with Junior Achievement goes beyond a day of learning — it’s about creating real opportunities for students and showing them the possibilities that await them. These new storefronts will not only introduce them to utility careers but also teach valuable life skills they can carry with them, no matter the path they choose.”
In BizTown®, students in grades 4–6 can explore a simulated town, assuming roles in the utility industry. Meanwhile, at Finance Park, students in grades 7–9 are assigned a persona — including relationship status, personal debt, and more — to better understand how financial responsibility ties into energy management.
Watch the video below to see how these storefronts are inspiring the next wave of energy leaders.
