Building Access, Ensuring Safety

In honor of National Safety Awareness Month, we are proud to highlight how our employees are making homes safer across the Eastern Shore.

In 2024, 77 volunteers from across our company partnered with Chesapeake Housing Mission to build five wheelchair ramps in Dorchester, Somerset and Worcester counties. These ramps restored safe, independent access for residents with mobility challenges—like 95-year-old Ada W. of Cambridge.

Before the ramp, Ada’s son Gilbert had to use plywood and hired help to get her in and out of the house. “It wasn’t safe and made her nervous,” he said. Now, thanks to our team, Ada can leave her home with confidence.

The project brought together employees from departments across the company, united by a shared commitment to safety and service. As team leader Nicole Bruno put it, “It was great to see such a diverse group come together for a shared mission.”

With more ramp builds planned for 2025, Delmarva Power remains dedicated to protecting and empowering our communities, one safe step at a time.
