When most people think of power lines, they picture the tall poles and wires stretching across neighborhoods and highways. But some of the most critical work happens far beneath our feet. On this National Lineworker Appreciation Day, we shine a light on our underground crews who help maintain more than 7,300 miles of underground power lines across our service area.
With support and training from crew leaders like Sean O’Donnell, a dedicated member of the Pepco Underground team for more than 40 years, crews work around the clock inspecting underground vaults, troubleshooting faults, and ensuring that buried cables and equipment remain safe, efficient, and reliable. Watch the video below to hear directly from Sean as he shares what it means to be an Underground lineworker at Pepco.
While this video highlights the essential work of our underground teams, we also extend our heartfelt appreciation to all our lineworkers—whether working overhead or underground—whose expertise and dedication keep our communities connected and energized every day.
