With recent news highlighting rising energy costs, we want to keep you informed about the latest updates from Atlantic City Electric. We’re also sharing important steps being taken by Governor Phil Murphy and the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) to help ease the burden and support our customers and communities throughout the summer.
New Customer Relief Fund and other Enhanced Support for this Summer
Beginning in early July, eligible customers will be able to get relief from high energy costs through Atlantic City Electric’s Customer Relief Fund, which will provide grants of up to $300 to Atlantic City Electric limited-to-moderate income customers. The fund is made possible by a one-time charitable contribution from Exelon, Atlantic City Electric’s parent company, to SHARES, our non-profit partner with extensive experience providing help to families in South Jersey.
In addition to the fund, we’re offering enhanced resources for our customers this summer, including:
- Suspending service disconnections for nonpayment for eligible customers from July through September
- Waiving fees for disconnected customers who are seeking to restore service from July through September
- Offering longer repayment terms for residential customers, up to 24 months
In addition to the Customer Relief Fund, Atlantic City Electric offers a wide range of Bill Payment Options and Financial Assistance to help customers manage their energy use and lower their monthly bills. This includes an Assistance Finder, Budget Billing, Payment Arrangements, and Extended Payment Date Plans.
Governor Murphy’s Plan
Beyond these measures, Governor Murphy also announced $430 million in direct bill assistance that will deliver at least $100 in relief to customers, and up to $250 for qualifying limited-to moderate-income customers. We will share more information on these credits as it becomes available.
BPU Offers Deferred Credits
Today, the BPU approved a plan to provide a $30 deferred credit on residential customer bills during July and August. This credit will help offset bill increases stemming from recent supply cost increases and higher usage during the summer months. Beginning in September and continuing through February, Atlantic City Electric will apply a charge to customer bills to recover the cost of this credit, without interest, helping to reduce bill spikes during the summer months and deferring costs to cooler months when energy usage typically decreases.
