As we embrace the holiday season, it’s time to reflect on the spirit of giving that fuels us at Delmarva Power. Our commitment to the region extends beyond providing energy — it’s about building connections, supporting our communities, and creating positive change.
In 2024, our employees came together in meaningful ways to ensure a better, brighter future for generations to come. One of those impactful efforts includes their record-breaking contributions to our Employee Giving Campaign, with Delmarva Power and our sister companies collectively raising more than $500,000 for the United Way.
Here’s how they dedicated their time and energy to making a difference this year:
Spreading Holiday Joy with the Salvation Army
We illuminated the holidays for families across the region through the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program. In Salisbury, our employees spent the day as “elves” shopping for toys, games, and necessities like warm coats and shoes for 48 local children. In Wilmington, more than 30 employees adopted 40 angels from the Delaware State Office of the Salvation Army, wrapping and delivering gifts to brighten the season for local families.
Walking for Mental Health Awareness
Over 30 employees and their family members joined the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) – Delaware Chapter’s Out of the Darkness Walk in Wilmington to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention, taking meaningful steps towards a more compassionate world.
Inspiring the Next Generation with Junior Achievement
We introduced over 4,000 8th graders to careers in the utility industry through Junior Achievement of the Eastern Shore’s “Inspire” event. Students had the opportunity to engage with employees, ask questions, and learn how we use drones to inspect overhead infrastructure and explore our bucket trucks.
Through our work with Junior Achievement of Delaware, we hosted a job shadow event for 11th and 12th graders at our Newark location, showing them the diverse career opportunities available within the utilities industry.
Driving Sustainability with Delaware Nature Society
In partnership with the Delaware Nature Society, we donated $40,000 to support five community-driven projects focused on reforestation, sustainable transportation, and composting, all working to benefit the environment and the well-being of people across Delaware.
Building a Diverse Energy Workforce
Our commitment to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), like the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) and Delaware State University (DSU), and community colleges, like Cecil College and Delaware Technical Community College, is essential as we strive to build an energy workforce reflective of the diverse communities we serve. In 2024, we continued our Power Scholars program, providing students with scholarships, internships, and mentor opportunities to open doors to energy industry careers.
We also celebrated the 30th anniversary of our annual Delmarva Power Golf Scholarship Classic, which raises more than $100,000 each year to benefit UMES, DSU, and other local colleges. These funds ensure students will continue to have access to resources that empower them to excel academically and professionally as they pursue their secondary education.
As we step into the new year, our teams will keep delivering More Than Energy — whether it’s supporting families in need, advocating for mental health, or investing in education and sustainability. Together with our employees, partners, and neighbors, we’ll continue building stronger, more resilient communities.
