The holidays bring great cheer and joy in our communities and we celebrate this wonderful time of year as an opportunity to give back, especially to those who need a helping hand. Here are just a few ways our employees are giving back this season in the communities where we live and work.
Giving Gifts of Joy – Newark-area employees are spreading cheer by delivering holiday gifts through the 20th Annual Gift Tag Program. Through this long-standing program, collected gifts are given to more than 300 foster children, veterans and seniors. This program is unique since it provides gifts to more than just children. Additionally, employees partnered with the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers 1238 to deliver gifts to Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. Santa, his elf, and a team of employees delivered gifts in a large truck and visited with children at the hospital to bring them cheer during a difficult time.
Remember-Honor-Teach Wreaths Across America – This month, employees, friends and family throughout Delaware and Maryland participated in several Wreaths Across America events—honoring fallen U.S. veterans by laying wreaths on headstones across the country. Many of our employees are veterans or have family or friends who have served or currently serve. Taking part in this annual ceremony is an important moment during the holidays for us to remember those who have served and support those who have lost a loved one. . Locations included Hurlock, Md., Salisbury, Md. and Millsboro, Del.
Angel Tree – Through the Salvation Army Angel Tree program, employees from our Salisbury Regional Office were able to bring holiday cheer to more than 30 local children ages 10 to 13. Our employees fulfilled the wish lists the children had written and sent to the Salvation Army, hosting a fundraiser to collect money for the gifts, shopping and delivering the presents to make it all come true.
“Children in this age group are often overlooked during gift donations,” said Delmarva Power Customer Care Manager, Darren Massey. “We feel really blessed that we were able to help these children have a bright and exciting holiday season.”
With giving at the heart of this season, our employees are happy to spread holiday cheer and make a difference. We look forward to another great year of giving and supporting hundreds of non-profit organizations across our service area.
