Pepco is proud to continue its partnership with the DC Infrastructure Academy (DCIA) to provide DC residents with high-quality, specialized trainings and programs to prepare District residents for careers in the energy and utility field at Pepco and our contractors of choice, despite COVID-19 challenges.

“The partnership between the District of Columbia and Pepco has been a cornerstone of Mayor Bowser’s vision, as residents receive high-quality and meaningful training that prepares them for in-demand careers in the utility industry,” said DOES Director Dr. Unique Morris-Hughes. “As we assess the full economic and labor impacts of COVID-19, we continue to work in tandem with Pepco to provide uninterrupted training through a hybrid model, ensuring residents are connected to employment opportunities that lead to careers.”

This spring, DCIA and Pepco continued its commitment to shape the future careers of District residents and to ensure job creation and long-term career pathways are readily available for District residents during this time of need. Despite the economic blow and declining job market, in June 2020, Pepco graduated a cohort of 15 participants, all of whom received job offers from Pepco and our contractors of choice. Together with DCIA, we worked quickly to  ensure participants were still prepared for energy careers, Pepco’s training department, line workers, and partners worked together to develop a virtual training model highlighting various jobs including cable splicer mechanics, helper transformer testers, meter technicians and more so that participants can stay on schedule with training, and not miss out on invaluable learning opportunities despite local COVID-19 health restrictions

This August, DCIA and Pepco kicked off our next cohort following a hybrid training model made up of virtual sessions as well as hands-on demonstrations at the DCIA facility including overhead distribution, underground distribution, transmission, and a live line truck demo. Pepco recognizes the importance of continuing the infrastructure program and the many benefits it brings to the community and our future Pepco workforce.

Pepco is honored to continue this partnership and the bright future ahead for the District.
