Our Reliability Commitment: Strengthening Electric Infrastructure

At Delmarva Power, our commitment to reliability means providing consistent electricity access essential for daily life, local business operations and emergency services such as hospitals or 9-1-1 facilities. Keeping the lights on is crucial for maintaining community well-being and economic stability. By modernizing our infrastructure and using new technology, we are enhancing power grid safety and resiliency, while supporting a reliable and sustainable energy future.

Infrastructure investments are a critical part of powering the communities we serve. By improving infrastructure resiliency, we can better support communities during extreme weather and reduce the need for additional reliability projects in the area. This work includes projects such as:

  • Lincoln to Milton which focuses on improving reliability for more than 3,100 customers in Sussex County, Del., by rebuilding six miles of existing distribution lines and constructing a new five-mile distribution line, creating a backup electrical feed to Ellendale and Milton.
  • Vienna to Nelson is rebuilding nearly 14 miles of transmission line to improve service for more than 57,000 customers in Delaware and Maryland. This is one of several transmission system upgrades expanding capacity across the local energy grid and supporting NRG’s Indian River power plant retirement.

Our commitment to enhancing reliability across our service area is evident in the record-reliability customers experienced in 2023 with the lowest frequency of outages in company’s history, improving 54 percent over the past decade.
