Pepco’s EVSmart Program Celebrates National Drive Electric Week

This week marks National Drive Electric Week (Sept. 25-Oct. 3), a nationwide celebration aimed at raising awareness of the benefits of electrifying our transportation systems.

Pepco is proud to offer programs to help our customers transition to electric vehicles (EVs). Through our EVSmart programs in Maryland the District of Columbia, we are working to install chargers in areas that need them the most, helping provide EV drivers flexibility and the ability to travel without worrying that they might run out of power. We also offer customers rebates, tools, and information on how to successfully go electric.

In Maryland, we pledged to install 250 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations over the next three years. This year alone, Pepco has opened charging stations in Mt. Rainier, Capitol Heights, Greenbelt, Riverdale Park and Colmar Manor. And to date, we have installed 35 charging stations. During the next three years, we plan to build out EVsmart with an extensive EV charging network across Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. EV drivers will be able to charge their vehicles at competitive rates at Level 2 smart chargers or Direct Current (DC) Fast Chargers – both of which will be fueled by 100 percent carbon free energy. Customers interested in using the new chargers can do so by logging on to the Greenlots mobile app or by calling 1-855-900-EVPLUG (7584).

Through our EVSmart program in the District, we offer special electric rates for residential customers with EV chargers to encourage charging during off-peak energy usage periods. Additionally, to accelerate the deployment of public charging opportunities in DC, we are providing make-ready infrastructure for 35 Level 2 smart chargers and 20 DC Fast Chargers. We are also working with District agencies and stakeholders to provide infrastructure to support charging for electric buses, taxis and ride-share vehicles and are exploring opportunities to power food trucks with electricity rather than relying on polluting diesel generators, helping to clear the air while reducing carbon and noise pollution.

We’re excited to offer these programs and resources to our customers and communities. With the wider-spread deployment of EV charging stations, we are able to build a reliable energy platform that connects our communities and supports our goals for powering a cleaner and brighter future.
