Supporting Local Solutions for a Sustainable, Resilient Future

Every day, local nonprofits and municipalities across Delaware and Maryland are working to make our communities stronger, greener, and better prepared for the future. This year, four of those organizations are receiving a boost through Delmarva Power’s Sustainable Communities Grant Program, in partnership with Sustainable Maryland.

Together, we’re awarding $45,000 in funding to support projects that protect natural resources, improve emergency preparedness, and create vibrant spaces where communities can thrive.

“Strong communities don’t happen by accident – they’re built through strategic investments and local partnerships,” said Valencia McClure, Senior Vice President of Government Regulatory and External Affairs for Pepco Holdings. “These grants empower organizations already doing critical work to protect our environment and strengthen our communities in measurable ways, and we’re proud to support them as they protect the neighborhoods where our customers and teams live.”

Meet this year’s grant recipients:

  • Delaware Center for the Inland Bays ($10,000): Supporting the “Bays to Backyards Community Engagement Program,” which advances environmental stewardship through restoration projects, education, and community partnerships aimed at strengthening ecological health and social cohesion.
  • American Diversity Group ($15,000): Advancing emergency preparedness through a mobile solar health outreach p
  • Town of Millsboro ($10,000): Installing an emergency generator at the Millwood Pump Station, ensuring the continuity of essential water and wastewater services during storms and power outages.
  • First State Community Action Agency, Inc. ($10,000): Creating the Concord Crossroads Community Resiliency Park and Green Learning Space, featuring native plantings, gardens, and outdoor spaces that promote environmental education and community health.

Over the past five years, the Sustainable Communities Grant Program has invested more than $280,000 in local organizations. These investments help our communities restore critical habitats, expand access to green spaces, and build the infrastructure needed to thrive in a changing climate — creating a stronger, more sustainable region for us all.
