At Pepco, we know that energy is more than just what powers our homes and businesses — it’s the spark that ignites positive change. Whether it’s through volunteer hours, charitable campaigns, or partnerships with local organizations, we’re putting our energy into creating a better, brighter future for all.
Our employees are a critical part of our ability to drive progress and this year, their dedication to giving back helped Pepco and our sister companies raise a record-breaking donation of more than $500,000 to the United Way as part of our Employee Giving Campaign.
As we reflect on what we’ve accomplished together in 2024, we’re particularly proud to share just a few of the ways our employees have made an impact in our communities:
Shining Bright with the Salvation Army Angel Tree
The holiday season is a time for joy and generosity, and our employees truly embodied this spirit by adopting 100 children through the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program. With 33 dedicated Pepco volunteers contributing, we made the holidays brighter for local DC-area children in need by donating gifts ranging from books to bikes.
Sustainability Beyond the Classroom: Earth Day and Field Day with DC Scores
This spring, we partnered with DC United and DC Scores to host an Earth Day event at Raymond Elementary School’s new, energy-efficient building. Students, led by their peers, dove into discussions on reducing carbon footprints and the importance of sustainability – an important part of our commitment to empower the future energy leaders.
We also hosted a Field Day at Raymond Elementary School, allowing local students to participate in everything from tug-of-war to soccer activities, all while learning about teamwork and leadership. Pepco volunteers led a hands-on STEM workshop, introducing students to the world of energy and giving them a sneak peek of what it’s like to be part of the energy workforce.
Illuminating the Season with ZooLights
For the past 17 years, Pepco has been a proud sponsor of ZooLights at the Smithsonian National Zoo, transforming it into a winter wonderland with half a million eco-friendly lights. This year, we welcomed 200 children from the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington and Tayac Elementary school as well as their teachers and families to experience this magical event, providing tickets, food, and a night of festive fun.
Raising Awareness, Saving Lives with AFSP
This year, nearly 100 Pepco and IBEW Local 1900 employees participated in the Out of the Darkness Walk on the National Mall, supporting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP)’s mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide. Our employees, who are passionate champions for mental health advocacy, also hosted an event for International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day, providing a space for connection, understanding, and hope.
Sustainability in Action
Together with Sustainable Maryland, we committed $125,000 through the Sustainable Communities Grant Program to support 10 local projects aimed at enhancing parks, restoring native pollinator species, and increasing access to essential resources like local produce and emergency medical equipment.
Building Stronger Communities Through HBCU Partnerships
Our commitment to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in our region is part of our broader efforts to create a more inclusive workforce. This year, we surprised a group of outstanding Howard University students with full-ride scholarships to complete their higher education and prepare them for a powerful future ahead.
Together with our employees, partners, and neighbors, we will continue to power change and shape brighter futures for our region and its residents in the new year.
