If you are facing challenges paying your energy bill, don’t worry. You have options. We know that COVID-19 has impacted all our customers and put a strain on the local economy. Below are some energy assistance options offered through us and our community partners.

Payment Arrangements & Due Date Extensions

If you’re facing challenges, your first step should be to apply for payment arrangements or to receive a due date extension. We’re here to work with you and make arrangements that fit your current situation. You can apply directly through My Account or call us at 800-375-7117.

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

After setting up payment arrangements, see if you are eligible for assistance through the LIHEAP program, which can provide you with more than $1,000 in grant support—depending on your household’s income size, type of fuel and type of dwelling—with no pay back required. If you live in Maryland, you can apply for LIHEAP energy assistance through the Maryland Department of Human Services website or by calling the Office of Home Energy Programs at 800-332-6347. If you live in Delaware, you can apply for LIHEAP energy assistance by visiting the Delaware Department of Health and Services website or by calling 302-654-9295 in New Castle County, 302-674-1782 in Kent County, or 302-856-6310 in Sussex County.

Additional Energy Assistance for Households with Limited Incomes

Delaware Energy Assistance

The Delaware LIHEAP (DEAP) application period runs from July 1 – March 31. Once you have applied, check to see what additional programs are available to you.

• Energy Crisis Intervention Program:  LIHEAP also has a Crisis Intervention Program if your service is going to be disconnected or you are out of fuel. You can apply by contacting your county’s Catholic Charities by calling 302-674-1782 in Kent County, 302-654-9295 in New Castle County and 302-856-6310 in Sussex County.

Maryland Energy Assistance

The Maryland LIHEAP (MEAP) application period runs from July 1 – June 30. Once you have applied, check to see what additional programs are available to you.

• The Electric Universal Service Program (EUSP): This program is designed to help you pay a portion of your current electric bill if you are an eligible customer with limited-income. You can get more information on EUSP by visiting the Office of Home Energy Programs website.
• Utility Service Protection Program (USPP): USPP can provide you assistance during the winter season if you are a qualifying family with limited income. Application information can be found by visiting the Office of Home Energy Programs website.

Delaware and Maryland Energy Assistance

• Good Neighbor Energy Fund: If you are facing hardship, the Good Neighbor Energy Fund, which is supported through donations from customers and Delmarva Power, can provide energy assistance. You can contact your local agency to learn more:
