Working with Our Communities to Build a Stronger Energy Grid

Given the growing threat of extreme weather and powerful storms, we are undertaking dozens of targeted projects to modernize and strengthen the local energy grid in southern New Jersey to better serve our customers. As we design these important reliability projects, we value input from our customers and communities and take a proactive approach to working with local residents, businesses and community members during the projects’ planning and design phases. Most recently, we held a community open house for the Atlantic City/Brigantine Community Reliability Project, which includes replacing an existing substation in Brigantine and rebuilding two critical transmission lines between Atlantic City and Brigantine.

The goal of our outreach is to address questions and minimize any potential impacts to our customers and the communities we serve. The Atlantic City/Brigantine Community Reliability Project open house gave our team the opportunity to provide more than 30 local residents with an overview of the project and answer questions. Our engineers and subject matter experts discussed the project one-on-one with residents, explaining how the project benefits them and addressing potential concerns from residents interested in learning more about construction near their home or business.

As part of the open house, attendees were encouraged to provide feedback on our project plans. This input, which our project team is reviewing, is being incorporated into our project design, wherever possible, as we work to finalize our plans.

We are committed to working closely with our customers and communities to address their questions and are taking steps to minimize any potential impacts throughout this important project. Already, the project team has made decisions to limit construction of the transmission lines to the “off-season” and adjust the design of the new substation based on community input.

We look forward to continuing to work with our communities to make our local energy grid more resilient and to help reduce the impacts of extreme weather. Click here to learn more about our current reliability projects across South Jersey.
